The Asian Foundation for Help is a fabulous organization that works tirelessly to improve the quality of life of the under privileged and needy in Asia and Third World Countries.
The Foundation has been an active supporter of the fight against blindness and were the pioneers in developing the “Eye Camps” concept where they take eye treatment to the under privileged and the needy.
With the launch of Rubicon Papaya this year we have become very involved in eye health awareness, partnering with the Eyecare Trust UK to promote the important role nutrition has in eye health. When we heard what the Asian Foundation For Help were doing, we were very impressed, and thought this was another great organisation to get involved with so we could make a difference to peoples’ lives. We are delighted to have started sponsoring the charity’s free Eye Camps in India. So far since July 07, we estimate we have helped over 4000 people.
How it works:
The Foundation works with local charities and organisations including local volunteers and hospitals to arrange the eye care camp.
The Eye Camp is advertised in the village and surrounding areas by leaflets, and word of mouth basis.On the day, tests are made on all patients who attend. If needed, patients are advised if cataract operations are required and medicine and reading glasses provided where necessary
If patients need an operation, they will be taken to hospital together with a family member and if necessary they will be kept over nightAll this is provided free of charge. On average about 200-250 patients are treated at each eye camp with between 20 and 30 requiring an operation.
