The fruit
The fruit, which is similar in size to a plum, grows in bunches on the main branches of the Litchi tree. The skin of the fruit is rough and uneven, although in colour it is a pleasing pinkish crimson. Inside, the edible flesh that is whitish and jelly like, encloses a single glossy-brown seed. It tastes somewhat like Muscat grapes and is rich in Vitamin C.

Fruity Facts
This fruit [Litchi chinensis], which grows primarily in sub-tropical regions of Southern China is related to the Rambutan, and is a member of the Sapindaceae family. This is also grown in Southeast Asia, Australia, Israel, South Africa, Florida, and Hawaii.

Uses
Its sweet, yet acid quality makes it ideal to complement Chinese cuisine and it is customarily eaten raw as the last course of the traditional dinner. Chinese communities living abroad, especially in the West have perpetuated this habit.
